EXERCISE AND LOWER LIMB CONDITIONS

A venous skin ulcer is a sore on your leg that’s very slow to heal, usually because of weak blood circulation in the limb. Lower limb swelling is often a symptom.

Once the leg ulcer/wound is treated, improvement in the circulation can help the healing process.

Regular exercise can benefit the overall health status of people with Down Syndrome through:

  • Doing regular foot and ankle exercises can help strengthen your leg muscles and improve blood flow in your legs.
  • Activity that increases the blood flow, function and efficiency of the circulation, could improve the healing of venous leg ulcers.
